A welcoming place for people experiencing a mental health crisis

The Urgent Mental Health Care Centre (UMHCC) provides high-engagement support in a calm, "lounge room like" space to help with your urgent mental health needs.

The UMHCC offers an alternative to presenting at hospital Emergency Departments for a mental health crisis.

We work with you to understand what will help right now, and then if needed, connect you with the right support for later.

Using a combination of peer-led recovery and clinical support, we provide evidence-based, caring, safe and inclusive urgent mental health support.

Safe and inclusive urgent mental health support

A welcoming space for all

We offer non-judgmental, caring and helpful support in a calm, comfortable environment.

Designed in collaboration with the community, including people with a lived experience of a mental health crisis, the UMHCC offers a welcoming place to help everyone feel safe and accepted.

Support from people who have lived through it

Many of our staff have experienced a mental health crisis and understand what you might be going through.

The Peer Support team work alongside the Clinical team and offer support from your arrival all the way to when you are ready to leave.

Find a way forward, together

We provide immediate help to support you through a crisis and work collaboratively to develop a care plan.

Our recovery-focused approach helps to understand your needs and provide you with the right support for now and connect you with ongoing support for later.

Safe and inclusive support

The UMHCC provides a high-engagement, recovery-based experience for each person.

Peer supports accompany you on your arrival and assist all the way up to when you leave.

Our multi-disciplined team collaborate to offer a unique blend of peer-supported, high-engagement, safe and inclusive mental health support.

An evidence-based approach

Drawing from leading international research, we focus on what works to support people in a mental health crisis.

Staff at the UMHCC include an equal mix of mental health clinicians and experienced peer support workers.

With a long history of providing complex recovery-based support, we take a person-centred approach to match your support with your needs.

Run in partnership to support better outcomes

The Urgent Mental Health Care Centre is a Neami National service, delivered in partnership with RI International and supported by SA Health and the Australian Government.

Working together allows us to offer something new to benefit consumers and the community. We tailor our services to fit the needs of the local communities in which we work and, by collaborating, offer services with a 'no wrong door' approach to access and support.

Sharing knowledge and expertise with community and clinical services helps everyone to understand how to best support good mental health.
