About this service
The Albany Mental Health Step-Up / Step-Down Service offers short-term residential mental health support for people who are at risk of being admitted to hospital (‘step-up’) or transitioning back into the community after leaving hospital (‘step-down’).

What to expect
We provide support when you need it most.
An experienced mental health worker will support you to develop strategies and skills that help you to:
- identify your strengths
- build healthy coping skills
- set and work towards goals to support your mental health
- strengthen your support networks, and
- stay safe.
Our teams include staff with their own lived experience of mental health challenges and/or distress.
The Albany Step-Up / Step-Down Service is free and you don’t need a Medicare card to access it.
You can stay at the Albany Step-Up / Step-Down Service for up to 28 days.
People usually stay with us for between 2 and 4 weeks.
