About STEP

The Supported Transition and Engagement Programs (STEP) support people who are sleeping rough or experiencing homelessness in Sydney to find and keep long term housing, while also supporting their wellbeing. We work alongside each person in a way that fits their situation, supporting their mental health, connections with community, and the people in their life who matter to them.

About the programs

The Supported Transition and Engagement Program (STEP) works alongside people to help them find or keep a place to live and manage their tenancy.

Both programs support people sleeping rough in Sydney Metropolitan areas to secure long-term housing and stay housed with ongoing support. STEP works in Sydney, South Eastern Sydney and Northern Sydney.

STEP A

STEP A supports people experiencing homelessness in inner Sydney to find safe, affordable housing through partnerships with community housing providers.

Housing is located across metropolitan Sydney, including the eastern suburbs and inner west.

Support includes up to three years of tailored support to:

  • find and keep housing
  • connect with mental and physical health services
  • build and maintain connections with community and social networks
  • access employment support
  • access the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

A 12 month support-only option is available for eligible community housing tenants.

Who can access this program

STEP B

STEP B supports people who are sleeping rough or have experienced homelessness to find and keep long term social housing, with support that fits their needs.

Support includes up to 12 months of assistance to:

  • find and keep housing
  • connect with health and community services
  • navigate services and systems
  • access practical resources to support ongoing independence.
