Free mental health and wellbeing support is available this holiday season

The holiday season can be a difficult time for many people, particularly if you’re experiencing mental health challenges like loneliness, family stress, grief, or financial pressure.

Whether it’s for yourself or someone you care about, support is available during this time. Many of our services remain open throughout the holiday period, and support can be accessed by phone or in person.

If you (or anyone you know) need immediate help:

  • Call 000 – emergency services Emergency ambulance, fire or police
  • Call 13 11 14 – Lifeline’s Crisis Hotline 24 hr crisis support & suicide prevention

National

The Medicare Mental Health phone service offers a free, confidential, and friendly referral phone service for people seeking support for their mental and emotional wellbeing.

  • Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5 pm
  • Weekends and public holidays (including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day),  closed

VIC

Medicare Mental Health Care Centre – Geelong

The Geelong Medicare Mental Health Centre is a welcoming space for anyone to access free mental health, social and emotional wellbeing support.

  • Monday – Friday, 12pm-9pm
  • Weekends and public holidays (including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day),  1pm-6pm.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Local in Latrobe

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Local in Latrobe supports Victorians aged 26 years and over to get mental health and wellbeing support, closer to home.

All support is free and you don’t need a Medicare card or referral from your doctor.

  • Monday – Friday, 9am-7:30pm
  • Saturday and public holidays (including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day), 12-7.30pm
  • Sunday, by appointment only

Mental Health and Wellbeing Local in Whittlesea

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Local in Whittlesea supports Victorians aged 26 years and over to get mental health and wellbeing support, closer to home.

All support is free and you don’t need a Medicare card or referral from your doctor.

  • Monday – Friday, 9am – 6pm
  • Saturday and public holidays (including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day), 10:30am-6pm
  • Sunday, by appointment only

The Liverpool Medicare Mental Health Centre is a welcoming space for anyone to access free mental health, social and emotional wellbeing support.

  • Monday, Wednesday – Sunday, 1pm-9:30pm
  • Tuesday, 1pm-5pm
  • Public holidays (including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day), 1pm-9:30pm

The UMHCC provides high-engagement support in a calm, “lounge room like” space to help with your urgent mental health needs.

  • Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Safe Space – Strathpine

Strathpine Safe Space is a free, safe and welcoming alternative to emergency departments for people experiencing distress or suicidal crisis, led by peer workers who understand.

  • Monday – Friday, 5pm-9pm

  • Public holidays (including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day), 3pm-7pm
