Where sport meets support – the 2025 Neami Community Cup

Each October, the Port Macquarie community comes together to lace up their boots and don their best tutus to mark Mental Health Month.

Now in its sixth year, the 2025 Neami Community Cup brought together community members and 32 local organisations to raise awareness for mental health.

An initiative of the Neami Mid North Coast service and proudly supported by Community Housing Limited and the Port Saints Football Club, the event was inspired by the way sport can bring people together and support wellbeing in a non-clinical setting.

With soccer, team dress-ups, mini-games and a barbeque lunch, the day offered players and spectators the opportunity to connect with services and the local community.

Local organisations hosted information stalls around the grounds, showcasing support options and resources to support mental health and wellbeing.

From mindfulness games and art stations to wellness quizzes and free resources, every stall brought something unique to the day.

Twenty organisations registered teams to compete in the soccer round robin, with awards presented for tournament winners, Most Valuable Player (MVP), and best dressed – celebrating creativity, teamwork, and community pride.

Neami Service Manager Cherie Caltabiano said, ‘The Neami Community Cup grows each and every year, proving that movement, connection and community are powerful tools for wellbeing.

‘This day is a reminder that no one has to face mental health challenges alone.’
