We’re excited to share that our Head to Health Centres are now called Medicare Mental Health Centres.
The name change is part of the Australian Government’s efforts to strengthen Medicare and improve access to free mental health services. Neami operates seven Medicare Mental Health Centres across Australia.
Peter Warden, Director of Mental Health Hubs at Neami, says, “We’re hopeful that this rebrand will increase community awareness of these vital services, ensuring more individuals and carers can access free and confidential mental health support when they need it. Neami is committed to working alongside the Federal Government to expand these services as needed, making support accessible to more people across Australia.”
What’s changing?
While the name has changed, Medicare Mental Health Centres continue to provide a welcoming space to access free and confidential mental health information, services, and support.
Services will continue to open extended hours. No appointment, referral or Medicare card is needed, and you don’t need to be an Australian citizen or resident to access support.
Medicare Mental Health Centres are here to help you.
Whether people have experienced mental health challenges in the past or this is their first time reaching out for support, everyone is welcome.
Medicare Mental Health Centres offer:
- immediate help and follow-up for people who are in distress
- support for people with mental health concerns
- support for carers and families of people experiencing mental health distress
- help connecting people with other services to support them in the future, from health to mental health, and social supports like housing and employment.
Our team of qualified mental health professionals and people with lived experience of mental health challenges work together to offer support, now and into the future.
