Neami recently contributed a submission to the national Inquiry into the relationship between domestic, family and sexual violence and suicide (DSFV). Our submission reflects valuable insights from Neami’s Safe and Secure Housing Program, Urgent Mental Health Care Centre, and The Way Back aftercare service. Our submission emphasises the need for a whole-of-government approach to address the social determinants of DFSV-related distress and suicide. We recommend a wide range of measures that governments can take to enable victim-survivors to recover and rebuild their lives.
‘Trying to progress through these different systems can be like being trapped in a big web. We have seen many women have to return to the perpetrator because of system barriers. Systems can cause harm.’
