Supporting carers and staff: the positive results of our Carer Friendly Workplace Survey
Neami is committed to supporting carers and staff who identify as carers.
At Neami, we are aware of and value the fact that the family and friends of people experiencing mental health issues can play a crucial role in making a positive difference in an individual’s recovery journey. We are also aware of and value the Neami staff who fulfil a carer role within their own personal life.
In 2017, we developed a Carer Framework and launched a Carer Friendly Workplace project to implement the framework. These initiatives ensure that we can effectively support carers, families and friends of people who access our services, as well as team members with caring responsibilities.
In 2017 and 2018, a staff survey has helped us to better understand how we can support staff with caring responsibilities. The 2018 survey demonstrates that there remains a high number of staff that identify as a carer (40%) and that the majority feel that their manager (83%) and fellow work colleagues (80%) were supportive and flexible with regards to their caring needs.
A full survey report has now been finalised and the next stage in the project will be to implement the report recommendations to further improve support for staff with caring responsibilities.
