LGBTIQ people and communities

Neami values the contribution and resilience of LGBTIQ people and communities.

Neami values the contribution and resilience of LGBTIQ people and communities. We also acknowledge that LGBTIQ people and communities experience mental health difficulties at a disproportionately higher rate than the wider community. And, that for many LGBTIQ people there remains a fear of discrimination relating to sex, sexuality and/or gender identity when accessing mainstream health care.

Neami is working towards our goal of being a safe and inclusive organisation for people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, bodies and abilities. We encourage you to talk with us about your sex, sexuality and/or gender identity if you want to, particularly if you feel that it will help support your mental health and wellbeing. We have an expectation that our workers and teams will create a safe environment for you to do so.

We also recognise that you are not defined by your sex, sexuality and/or gender identity – that you have a number of strengths and abilities that define who you are. Neami can work with you to explore your individual strengths and values and how they can support you to live a meaningful life.

We are always learning about how we can be more inclusive of different identities and experiences, so we encourage you to share with us how we can best do this and provide feedback on what we can improve. You can contact our feedback service.
