Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples

We understand the unique experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities can shape the needs for support.

Aboriginal Torres Strait Islands Flag 1

We acknowledge Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities as the Traditional Custodians of the land we work on and pay our respect to Elders past, present and emerging. We recognise that their sovereignty was never ceded and the impact of structural inequality that results from invasion continues to this day.

Neami recognises that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander concepts of mental health and wellbeing are directly connected to land, family and spirituality and are understood across mental, physical, social, spiritual and cultural wellbeing.

We recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities experience persistently poorer health outcomes than other Australians and that these circumstances must be understood in relation to historical impact, colonisation and dispossession.

We are currently in the process of developing a Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) as we seek to nurture and develop cultural belonging and safety for all consumers and staff.

We are always learning how we can better support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities. If you’d like to share with us ways we can do this and/or ways we can improve, you can contact our feedback service.
