Last year Neami supported Sunrise Health Service to establish a mental health support service in Ngukurr – a remote Aboriginal Community in southeast Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.
Through the voices of the team members who participated the story outlines how the team working in a partnership established a culturally appropriate service in the remote outback. Participants have shared the challenges they faced, the strategies used to address them and how the values they held underpin their work.
Although Neami’s role was initially as a mentor for Sunrise Health in establishing the service in Ngukurr, through mutual respect and understanding both organisations established a deep and meaningful relationship.
Working in partnership with Sunrise Health Service in starting this much-needed mental health support service provided valuable experience for the community and all participants in delivering mental health services in a culturally appropriate way.
